{"id":402,"date":"2015-11-06T17:30:25","date_gmt":"2015-11-06T17:30:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/samh.net\/blog\/2015\/11\/the-phoenix\/"},"modified":"2015-11-06T17:30:25","modified_gmt":"2015-11-06T17:30:25","slug":"the-phoenix","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/samh.net\/blog\/2015\/11\/the-phoenix\/","title":{"rendered":"The Phoenix"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"tumblr_blog\" href=\"http:\/\/thelastchair.tumblr.com\/post\/132633837606\" target=\"_blank\">thelastchair<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><i>(Written by Isaac Walden\/<a href=\"http:\/\/www.junkshowmediahouse.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Junkshow Media House<\/a> &#8211; November 5, 2015)<\/i><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/66.media.tumblr.com\/e2300f0e57cb70758ffa39781e8bc7aa\/tumblr_inline_nxdc24VLU01svmsmb_540.jpg\" \/><\/figure>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The inspiration behind the idea was simple, a late night burn out operation around the town of Featherville, Idaho. \u00c2\u00a0Waking up on the dirt, early one morning in a snowpark choked with smoke, a topographic map of the Trinity Ridge Fire with twisted contour lines packed tight like tree rings. \u00c2\u00a0 Just like that the seed of adventure was planted. <\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/66.media.tumblr.com\/d3ccd1ab6ff3ff797dbf658d9430c616\/tumblr_inline_nxdbweeIbK1svmsmb_540.jpg\" \/><\/figure>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/66.media.tumblr.com\/a6bdbdbcfa708d9e69808e7bab450781\/tumblr_inline_nxdbwnRV151svmsmb_540.jpg\" \/><\/figure>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The follow through would prove to be a little more trying. \u00c2\u00a0We set out from the snowpark in the dark on snowmobiles. \u00c2\u00a0The dirt had been replaced by snow and the smoke had been replaced by condensation from our breath in the cold air. \u00c2\u00a0It was snowing. \u00c2\u00a0The navigation was easy until we hit a long broad ridgeline; with little or sometimes no landmarks to go by, the pace slowed to a crawl. \u00c2\u00a0Check the GPS. Try not to get stuck in wind lip. \u00c2\u00a0Then, a Forest Service sign: Big Trinity Lake, we made it.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/66.media.tumblr.com\/4f1a36468395e70ce73ca470d6ebb72a\/tumblr_inline_nxdbxlhxGJ1svmsmb_540.jpg\" \/><\/figure>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/66.media.tumblr.com\/bd98fd8b71a0c9b737f4a4420d399b5c\/tumblr_inline_nxdbxtO0nV1svmsmb_540.jpg\" \/><\/figure>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Logistics on the fire line is simple: a whole Division can order up every thing they need by numbers, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d like to order up three of #14, five of #15 and ten of #53,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d is what a radio call might sound like. \u00c2\u00a0Here, now, on our own and in the dark, we are roughly 90-road miles from the closest fast food menu. \u00c2\u00a0And we would still have to make another trip down to the snowpark in similar conditions. \u00c2\u00a0We need to set up the wall tent. \u00c2\u00a0The wall tent needs firewood, I need food and for Gods sake man \u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t let the water freeze. \u00c2\u00a0The good news is that the campground shitters are unlocked. \u00c2\u00a0I think it was fair to say by the time we finally bedded down for the night, we missed the support structure that fire can provide.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/66.media.tumblr.com\/cab1b773a12149334211bf84784b7542\/tumblr_inline_nxdbzifqW61svmsmb_540.jpg\" \/><\/figure>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/66.media.tumblr.com\/4338d861bfb74ae2984700707bc8c6cc\/tumblr_inline_nxdbzxDFoz1svmsmb_540.jpg\" \/><\/figure>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>By morning the snow had stopped. \u00c2\u00a0We had camped in the middle of a fun land mini golf park. \u00c2\u00a0Bench after bench of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153one-hit wonders\u00e2\u20ac\u009d lined the foreground and with a little more exploring and some intrepid snowmobile driving, we found larger spins and steep tight couloirs. \u00c2\u00a0We would ski, sled, drink beer, break ski boots and shoot guns.
