You need not be scared by it. It is in a non-critical location and only serves the purpose of keeping chain from rubbing on the frame of my longtail bike.
I might add that after having ridden with this for awhile I feel that the location of the idler wheel is too close to the frame and would better serve its job if the bolt it’s attached to was longer and allowed the wheel sit more inline with the chain.

What is the benefit of this roller with chain. Do you know any upgrade for fast speed? I am looking for one.
The purpose is to take slack out of the chain which is very long (cargo bike).
