In the 80s and 90s I spent Sunday evenings listening to the Dr. Demento show on KJ104 out of Minneapolis. One of my favorite songs on the radio program was called “Existential Blues” by Tom ‘T-Bone’ Stankus.
Tonight while scouring the Internet for more information about that song, not only did I find Tom’s website (and send him an e-mail) I also found a video on Youtube wherein Mike Patton and Mr. Bungle perform this song live at a club in 1991. If you’re not a Patton fan and you follow my blog then you should probably get with the program and do some research. If you like what I post I’m pretty certain you’ll like Patton (Mr. Bungle, Faith No More, Fantômas, Tomahawk, to name but a few).
Here is Mike Patton leading Mr. Bungle is a particularly spot-on rendition of “Existential Blues” with an interesting little mid-song breakdown into “Pencil Neck Geeks” by Freddie Blassie.
