{"id":44,"date":"2010-12-13T21:55:00","date_gmt":"2010-12-14T04:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/samh.net\/backpacking\/blog\/2010\/12\/post-skiing-bliss.html"},"modified":"2010-12-13T21:55:00","modified_gmt":"2010-12-14T04:55:00","slug":"post-skiing-bliss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/samh.net\/backpacking\/blog\/2010\/12\/post-skiing-bliss.html","title":{"rendered":"Post-Skiing Bliss"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was looking over my Twitter feed when I came across a suggestion from <a href=\"http:\/\/bedrockandparadox.wordpress.com\/\">Dave C<\/a> to read a post by <a href=\"http:\/\/aaronteasdale.blogspot.com\/\">Aaron T<\/a> whom I&#8217;m familiar with through other avenues.&nbsp; The connections grew stronger when I found out the blog post was about an old friend Ben whom I used to work with.&nbsp; Small world.<\/p>\n<p>None of that has anything to do with this blog post other than that I decided to spend ten minutes looking through Aaron&#8217;s blog and found the photo below from his May 5th, 2010 post <a href=\"http:\/\/aaronteasdale.blogspot.com\/2010\/05\/best-may-day-ever.html\"><i>Best. May Day. Ever.<\/i><\/a>  He describes a day of skiing in which none of the participants wanted to stop.&nbsp; They wanted to continue, lap after lap, knowing it was probably the last time they&#8217;d get to ski powder until the fall, some months away.<\/p>\n<p>The photo exhibits a certain quality to me.&nbsp; The old jeep parked aside a muddy road.&nbsp; Snow melting around the men as they quietly and methodically put on warm, dry gear all the while calmly sipping a bottle of what is most certainly a local Northwest craft brew.&nbsp; Both look content in an environment that 90% of the world would consider to be cold, wet, and unpleasant.&nbsp; I tip my hat to people like these that capture the essence of why we backcountry ski.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_AbvqfAXLizw\/S-EJyCNmcUI\/AAAAAAAAAwM\/CS1c53Rt-B0\/s1600\/IMG_1557.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"480\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_AbvqfAXLizw\/S-EJyCNmcUI\/AAAAAAAAAwM\/CS1c53Rt-B0\/s640\/IMG_1557.jpg\" width=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><i>Photo \u00c2\u00a9 Aaron Teasdale from <a href=\"http:\/\/aaronteasdale.blogspot.com\/2010\/05\/best-may-day-ever.html\">Best.
