Glacier National Park - Cracker Lake

During August of 2003, Mark, Matt and Sam got together for an excursion out and back to Cracker Lake in the Many Glacier district on the east side of Glacier National Park.

Fed by meltwaters from an active glacier, Cracker Lake is filled with minute particles of rock, ground up by the glacier. These tiny particles, suspended in the water, reflect and refract light giving the lake its deep opalescent color.

Once the scene of a mining boom in the early 1900’s, it is now a quiet retreat for hikers and campers to the park. 1
